During my junior year of high school, I used my creative abilities to investigate and shed light on the way that society treats the topic of menstruation. I designed each of these pieces to change the way viewers think about periods by using art and beauty to dissolve discomfort. We will never be able to live in a gender-equative society if we do not address the period-shaming that is embedded in both our legislature and social norms.
I also want viewers to recognize how periods affect people differently. To most menstruators, bleeding and cramping for a week every month is simply a major inconvenience. But for anyone near or below the poverty line, having to purchase menstrual hygiene products is a big financial burden. And for anyone with gender dysphoria, periods can be triggering.
